TikTok has launched Streaming Ads, a catalog-fueled advertising solution built specifically for streaming and content services. The format turns TikTok's discovery engine into a direct subscriber acquisition channel, with three creative formats and a new title-launch option, all powered by Smart+ automation.
Singular Media Card puts a single title front and center, pairing a cover image with one video tile that links straight to that title's page. Media Card expands this into a carousel, letting advertisers showcase several titles from their catalog in a single ad unit so viewers can browse before clicking through. Multi-Show Experience goes further still, offering a fuller, catalog-style browsing experience inside the ad itself, closer to scrolling a streaming app's home screen than watching a traditional ad. TikTok has also added New Title Launch, a dedicated format for marquee releases that need a bigger moment than a standard catalog card.
To run Streaming Ads, an advertiser's catalog needs a minimum of 5 assets or rows, though TikTok recommends 10 or more so Smart+ has enough inventory to optimize delivery and creative variation in real time. Every ad card links directly to a specific title in the catalog rather than a generic landing page, and the format is built around one conversion event in particular: a subscription to a VOD platform. TikTok has also published research suggesting the platform already shapes streaming behavior well beyond its own app, with the majority of surveyed users saying TikTok content inspires their streaming choices and encourages them to explore new titles.
The format is designed for advertisers promoting video content on a streaming platform, and it fits VOD and video streaming services particularly well, since the conversion goal is subscriber growth rather than plain awareness. Audiobook platforms promoting a specific title or series can use the same catalog-to-title logic effectively. It is a weaker fit for music promotion: labels and artists driving streams on music platforms won't get much value from a format built around subscriptions rather than plays, so the metric Streaming Ads optimizes for isn't the one that matters most to a music campaign.
